Who is the real Mary? The Roman
Catholic church makes up stories about some people and most of their followers do not fact check
the stories/legends of the “saints”. They teach that Mary was a super hero, but
they hope that you will not read the Bible and learn about the real Mary. Most
people do not take the time to find these verses and understand them. And the
Catholic church avoids reading these verses in their services. We want to help
our friends, so we took time to find those verses and I also explain what it
means. An introductory thought; Jesus
did not look up to Mary with great respect.
We hope you will look at the Bible and
read each of the Bible Passages we quote. We have proof in Scripture about
things Mary did wrong to Jesus. If you have a Catholic Bible, some of these
verses have been removed and replaced with Catholic opinions. You are allowed
to read a King James Bible, and that will help you see all of these verses. I
mostly quote from the NKJV New King James Version Bible. There are many free
Bibles on-line. Let us start with the truth about Mary in this report. We also
have a report showing Paul's writings, and we have a report showing what Peter
taught. In this report we will be also talking about Jews at Jesus' time. Many
of the Jews in Jesus' days were great people, but you will also notice that we
mention a few Jews who worked in the temple with Herod the Arab. King Herod was
bad and the Jews who worked with Herod to control the temple were bad like him.
Herod was a power hungry monster, and his relative Herod took over after the
first Herod died, he was just as evil as the first Herod.
There was not a happy friendship
between Jesus and Joseph & Mary. Luke 2:41-52 tells us when Jesus was
twelve years old, and it was time to send Jesus to the Jerusalem school, Joseph
& Mary were not going to send Him to school, and they didn't even talk
about it. The family went up to Jerusalem for Passover every year. In
Jerusalem, Jesus took off and spent His time in the temple, and they didn't
even notice it. After the Passover, Joseph & Mary traveled toward home with
“their relatives and acquaintances” and didn't know “the Boy Jesus lingered
behind in Jerusalem” They “went a day's journey, and sought Him... when they
did not find Him among their relatives and acquaintances, they returned to
Jerusalem seeking Jesus... after three days they found Him in the temple” Jesus
was 12 years old talking profoundly with the teachers, they were amazed. Jesus
already had a great understanding about God. Joseph & Mary “ found Him in
the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and
asking them questions. And all who heard Him were astonished at His
understanding and answers. So when Joseph & Mary saw Him, “they were
amazed.”
We all need to look at the end of this
situation and learn; Joseph & Mary did not show Jesus respect, instead they
criticized Jesus. The Bible tells us they saw what was happening “all who heard
Him were astonished” and Joseph & Mary “they were amazed” but Mary said to
Him “'Why have You done this to us? Your father and I have sought You
anxiously.' And Jesus said to them, 'Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that
I must be about My Father's business? ” Joseph & Mary were wrong, they
should have sent Jesus to the temple school. And Jesus said that to them. Notice: Joseph & Mary knew that Jesus was
supposed to be at the temple, but Joseph & Mary rejected that and insulted
Jesus in front of the temple teachers and the students. Jesus complied with
their requirements “He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject
to them...” Joseph & Mary won, they got their way, but that failure was the
last we saw of Joseph. I’m convinced that error brought the end of Joseph's
life on earth. Yes, Joseph is in Heaven, but that was the end of his time here
on earth.
We have another event that shows Mary
was disrespectful to Jesus, it is the wedding of Cana. Start in the gospel of John chapter 1:15-31
John the Baptizer was preaching about the Messiah and baptizing the Jews who
wanted to be ready for the Messiah, John 32-36.
When John baptized Jesus, he saw “the Holy Spirit descending from Heaven
like a dove and remaining on Jesus” then Jesus went into the wilderness to
tempted by the devil for 40 days, Mark 1:12-13 and then Jesus returned. John
saw Jesus was back , he announced “Behold the Lamb of God!” Two of John's
disciples started following Jesus. In John 1:37-44 Jesus called 6 disciples;
James and his brother John, Andrew and his brother Peter, Phillip, and
Nathanael ”. Then John 2:1-2 the 6 disciples traveled with Jesus to Cana of
Galilee, “On the third day there was a wedding in Cana...” Mary was there and
she invited Jesus and His disciples. John 2:3-4 “And when they ran out of wine,
the mother of Jesus said to Jesus, 'They have no wine'. Jesus said to her'
Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not come.'” Did
you see it; Mary is concerned about earthly worries, and she demanded Jesus to
take care of her worldly concerns. Jesus made the wine she wanted, and the
Father allowed it as a teaching tool for those who knew what happened.
Those verses did not assign glory to
Mary, instead the Scriptures reduced her to “the mother of Jesus”. Her only
importance was she was Jesus' mom. Further demoting Mary Jesus called her
“woman” Jesus did not grant her holy dignity, Jesus demoted her to “woman”
Mary's request was allowed because Jesus used it to prophesy about His
crucifixion “My hour has not come.” Teaching the Biblical principal that wine
can be used to symbolize Jesus' blood. This is the first “sign” miracle, but it
is the second miracle Jesus did that is recorded in Scripture. The first
miracle recorded was at age 12, Jesus had a profound understanding of God,;
“And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers.” With
the water to wine miracle we have a hint of previous miracles, because Mary
knew Jesus could make the wine, and that He would make wine for the wedding.
How did Mary know Jesus would do that? It indicates that Mary had wanted
miracles prior to the wedding and Jesus did it. But this picture also indicates
that those other miracles were worldly minded for Mary, not for ministry.
The Roman Catholic religion also tries
to promote the virgin Mary. Yes, Mary was a virgin when the Father placed Jesus
inside Mary, and she remained a virgin until Jesus was born But she was married to Joseph, after Jesus
was born, they had many children together. Read Matthew 13:55-56 she had other
children “His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and
Judas? And His sisters...”. The Roman Catholic people should read the Bible for
themselves. They need to prove if the priest is right or wrong. Why does anyone
refer to Mary as a perpetual virgin? Maybe they can't read. Or maybe they don't
understand the Bible when they read it.
We have another event involving Mary's
disrespect toward Jesus, and this is a bigger error against Mary, and it's
recorded in 3 gospels; Matthew 12:46-50 and Mark 3:20-21 and Luke 8:19-21. Do
you know that Jesus' ministry of teaching and preaching was popular, there was
a crowd gathered around to hear Jesus when this happened. Matthew 12:46-47
“While He was still talking to the multitude, behold, His mother and brothers
stood outside, seeking to speak with Him. Then someone said to Him, 'Look, Your
mother and Your brothers are outside, seeking to speak with You'” And Luke
8:19-20 said; “Jesus' mother and brothers came to Him, and could not approach
Him because of the crowd. And it was told to Him by some, who said 'Your mother and Your brothers are standing
outside, desiring to see You'” But Peter gives us more details in Mark 3:20-21
“Then the multitude came together again, so that they could not so much as eat
bread. But when His own people heard about this, they went out to lay hold of
Him, for they said, 'He is out of His mind'” Back then, they never crucified
someone who caused social stress, if someone was a public nuisance their family
would take them home and take care of them. But this was way different than
that, Jesus' teachings were interesting, thousands of people followed Jesus to
learn the brilliant things He said Matthew 13:35. Explaining great mysteries
never known from the beginning of the world. But Jesus' teachings also brought
shame on the evil people who controlled the temple.
We just saw Mary, the mom of Jesus,
and with Jesus' half brothers, they were confused and wrong. The temple leaders
were saying bad and evil things about Jesus, Mary and His half brothers
believed what the temple leaders were saying against Jesus. Mary and the
brothers were trying to take action against Jesus, but it didn't work. Matthew
12:48-50 says “But He answered and said to the one who told Him, 'Who is My
mother and who are My brothers?' And He stretched out His hand toward His
disciples and said, 'Here are My mother and My brothers.! For whoever does the
will of My Father in Heaven is My brother and sister and mother'” At that event
Jesus avoided His mom and His brothers, and He promoted those who came to hear
and obey Him; “Here are My mother and My brothers.! For whoever does the will of
My Father in Heaven is My brother and sister and mother'” And notice Jesus put
the word “mother” at the end of that list “My brother and sister and mother”
Jesus reduced her importance because she was the instigator of that public
insult against Jesus.
We just saw that Mary was critical of
Jesus. I can show evidence that Mary and His half brothers remained critical of
Jesus until He was on the cross. This is very important , everyone needs to understand what the Bible
teaches about Mary. Did you notice that Matthew used the word “behold, His
mother and brothers...” Matthew was offended at Mary and Jesus' brothers, that
is why he used the word “behold”. Maybe someone doesn't believe that Mary held
that disrespect toward Jesus. The word “behold” is one clue.
We have more clues. The gospel of John
7:1-8 was a few months before Jesus' crucifixion. Jesus' brothers came to Jesus
and were still being insulting and dangerous to Jesus in John 7:1-8. Jesus was
planning to go to the Feast of Tabernacles, even though “the Jews sought to
kill Him” Jesus' brothers knew about the danger in Jerusalem, that is why they
said “...go into Judea, that Your disciples also may see the works that You are
doing... If You do these things, show Yourself to the world. For even His brothers
did not believe in Him” The Bible says that “His brothers did not believe in
Him.” at that time.
We have 2 more strong evidences that
Mary's disrespect continued against Jesus. When Mary and Jesus' half brothers
got to Jerusalem for Passover, Mary found out that they were crucifying Jesus.
When the Romans killed someone on a cross, they didn't have any clothes on. The
soldiers “divided His garments” Matt. 27:35 Also in Mark 15:24 “when they
crucified Him, they divided His garments” That is why Luke 23:49 says “the
women who followed Him from Galilee stood at a distance watching these things.”
But John tells us that four women went to the cross and standing beside the
cross. For decency reasons they were standing beside the cross in John 19:25-27
“there stood by the cross of Jesus, His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary
the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.“ Mary
got 3 friends to help her, they were
near the cross, not “standing at a distance” Why was Mary there at the cross?
John is a gentleman, John did not include Mary's apologies in his writings.
John doesn't even put his own name in the gospel of John. Mary's criticisms of
Jesus were well known. When she tried to take Jesus home saying He was out of
His mind, there was a large crowd, some people knew what happened, and people
talk, her error was well known. But Mary was greatly sorry when she saw Jesus
on the cross. And she desperately, urgently needed Jesus to forgive her, even
if the Roman soldiers were going to kill her she had to talk to Jesus, but her
three friends knew it would be safe. John did not humiliate Mary, he gave a
clue in Scripture to those who know the whole story. Mary stood by the cross of
Jesus and talked with Him. Mary apologized.
There is one more proof that what I’m
saying is correct back at the beginning. When Joseph & Mary took baby Jesus
to the temple to be dedicated in Luke 2:22-35. The old prophet Simeon gave a
prophecy from God in Luke 2:35 “this Child is destined for the fall and rising
of many in Israel, and for a sign that will be spoken against, (yes, a sword
will pierce through your soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be
revealed” Simeon just prophesied that many people will hate Jesus. And Simeon
included a personal note to Mary in the middle of that part. Please look at it
“ a sign that will be spoken against, (yes, a sword will pierce through your
soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed” – “a sword will
pierce your soul also.” Simeon put Mary right in the middle of the group that
will be against Jesus. That sword happened
after Jesus was dead, a soldier sent a sword into Jesus' heart. That
sword also pierced Mary's soul. Why? She felt the guilt of the trouble that she
was a part of bad things that ended Jesus' life.
So Mary made her apologies to Jesus
with many tears, and next we see the love of God. Jesus will send Mary to live
with John “the disciple who Jesus loved” for the rest of her life. “When Jesus
therefore saw His mother, and [John] the disciple whom He loved standing by, He
said to His mother, 'Woman, behold your son.!' Then He said to the disciple,
'Behold your mother.!' And from that hour that disciple took her to his own
home.” Did you see Jesus brought Mary back up to “woman”? That is not; The
mother of God, or Hail Mary full of grace or what ever
else the Catholic church says about her. Read the Bible and believe God's Word.
Do not believe what people say about the Bible, read it and prove if they are
right or wrong.
There is one more Bible Passage that
will have lots of value to Roman Catholics. So let's go back another time when
a large crowd was listening to Jesus and a lady yelled out from the crowd in
Luke 11:27 “And it happened, as He spoke these things, that a certain woman
from the crowd raised her voice and said to Jesus, 'Blessed is the womb that
bore You...' But Jesus said, 'More than that, blessed are those who hear the
Word of God and keep it.” Here again, Jesus elevated those who hear Him as
higher than His mom because she was opposed to His ministry. We can be sure
that woman had a demon speaking through her. That demon was trying to start the
worship of Mary, and Jesus totally opposed it. At the cross, Mary made her
apologies, she confessed her sins to God, Jesus. Mary got saved and she is in Heaven,
as also proved by Mary and his half-brothers were with the apostles in the
upper room when the Holy Spirit came on Pentecost (Acts 1:12-14). Hebrews
12:1-2 tells us that when believers die, they go to Heaven, and they all watch
what you and I do. Mary can see what the Roman Catholic church says, Mary is
against what the Roman Catholic church says about her. And she herself will
judge those evil doers. If you fell into some of those tricks, get away from
what they say about her, do not be a part of their lies and slander.
Your conclusion needs to be: Jesus was
perfect on earth, and He is perfect forever, without any sins or errors. When
it was the Father's timing for Jesus to go to the cross, and the evil people
were ready to kill Jesus, they wanted to find anyone who could accuse Jesus of
anything wrong. Don't forget that there
were many honorable Jews in Jerusalem during the time of Jesus. But the Jews
who ran the temple working with Herod the Arab were not honorable. They were
evil and mean. They sent their spies to ask Jesus some trick questions, but
Jesus gave excellent answers. They didn't have any reason to arrest Jesus but
they did it anyway. The Roman government didn't allow the Jews to kill by
crucifixion. So they needed to invent a crime to accuse Jesus. Then in Matthew
26:60 they ”sought false testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, but found
none.” Because Jesus was holy and perfect. But Jesus died and resurrected and
sits next to the Father as our Mediator 1st Timothy 2:5-6 “For there is one God
and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a
ransom for all”. The only way any sinner can get saved is by making a salvation
covenant with Jesus Hebrews 12:24 “Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant”, and
Jesus becomes their Mediator.
Here is another mystery that many
Catholics would like to see, the symbols of the new covenant are given by Jesus
at the last supper in Matthew 26:26-28, Mark 14:24-26 and Luke 22:20-22. Please
look at those verses, that was simply bread and it was simply wine. The
disciples didn't eat pieces of Jesus' hands or arms, they did not drink His
blood. Look at it. The bread and wine are the symbols of the new covenant. The
evil leaders in the Catholic church tell lies, they tell people that the bread
and the wine become raw red meat from Jesus' body or red blood from Jesus'
body. Why doesn't anyone prove them wrong publicly? Ask to look in a friend's
mouth after they chew the bread and before they swallow it. Or stick your
finger in your own mouth and scoop out the chewed wafer, it's white, NOT RED
MEAT. The Bible strictly forbids humans to drink blood of animals and humans.
Holy God cannot violate His holy commands. Holy God will not trick you into
drinking blood. After you put the wine in your mouth, swish it around and spit
it back into the cup and look at it, it's only wine mixed with your saliva, it
is NOT RED BLOOD. Why doesn't anyone call those priests liars? You want to go
to Heaven forever, do not trust those liars. Read the teachings of Jesus and
His apostles, Jesus trained the apostles Himself, and they were very careful to
tell the truth. Read Jesus' teachings, and the apostles teachings and believe
what they taught.
The Catholic church teaches their
followers to pray to Mary, but the Bible doesn't teach that. In fact the Bible
proves that Mary was a sinner just like you and me, she is powerless to help
you. If you, as a person, have been giving Mary more respect than you should,
now you know to quit doing that. Mary had to get saved by the blood of Jesus,
just like every one else. Mary was a sinner, so she can not be your holy mediator. If you give your life to
Jesus, then Jesus is your holy Mediator. Please feel free to ask us questions.
